THE ROMAN ROOMS HOTEL
* Something for everyone *
Whether you’re a sports’ fan, a connoisseur of the arts, a lover of history or are simply passing through and want somewhere to relax over a pint or take a long walk in the country, we have it all here for you.
Locally we have several cafe's and restaurants, and there are numerous eateries in Milton Keynes itself. The Theatre District is particularly well served for bars and restaurants and the Theatre itself is an impressive modern building with some excellent shows. It also houses the art gallery if you are a lover of the arts.
* History in the New City *
If you prefer history to the arts, there is the famous Bletchley Park, home of the Enigma codebreaking machine. Bletchley is about 20 minutes by car or 10 minutes by train (the Park is a short walk from the station). Milton Keynes Museum follows the history of the Milton Keynes area and is located in Wolverton itself.
If you prefer something grander then why not visit Woburn Abbey or Safari Park. Both are in nearby Woburn, about 30 minutes by car.
* Sports for All *
Fans of sport are really spoilt for choice. Of course there is the internationally recognised Silverstone Circuit which plays host to numerous racing events as well as Formula1. If you want to try your hand at Formula 1, why not start small at the Daytona International Kart track?
* Ball games *
Milton Keynes Dons (football) are housed in the impressive new stadium in near Bletchley . Northampton Saints Rugby Union club play just up the road in Northampton (15 minutes by train) and Milton Keynes Lightening play ice hockey in the Leisure Park near Milton Keynes Central Station. The National Badminfgton Centre is also located in Milton Keynes. For racing fans Towcester racecourse is about 8 miles up the A5 and offers evening meetings throughout the summer.
* Winter in Summer *
For those who enjoy the winter all year round, there is a indoor ski-slope at the Xscape building as well as a the ice-rink at the Leisure Plaza.
The Xscape also offers the opportunity of indoor rock climbing and one of the few sky diving simulators available for public use.
* Music *
Although not yet on a par with London or Glastonbury, there are music venues for all tastes. For fans of stadium rock the National Bowl hosts concerts in the summer. There are numerous other local summer events such as 'Follk on the Green' in nearby Stoney Stratford. The Stables in Wavendon (about 20 minutes drive) has a succession of talanted musicians throughout the year.
* Outdoors *
If you just want to go for a walk in the countryside, Milton Keynes is much better served than one might expect. The Parks Trust have numerous sites around the city including Ouse Valley Park a mile or so outside Wolverton. If you prefer a walk in the Wood, Salcey Forest lies on the way to Northampton or there are woods open to the public around Woburm and Aspley Guise, about 20 minutes by car.
* Open Air Pool *
Wolverton Open Air Pool is open from May to September with early evening adult only sessions. The pool is a five minute walk from the hotel. If you fancy a refreshing dip, and is free to children - see here.
